Polyrattan/ Rattan

Origin of Rattan

Rattan was already popular in ancient Egypt, where it was mostly used for baskets, chairs and other basketware. Wickerwork is originally from Asia and it has been cultivated there as a tradition for centuries. The Romans made basketware known all over the world and starting from the 16th century, with sailors travelling the seas, its success as wickerwork truly began.

Distinction between Rattan - Polyrattan

The generic term "Polyrattan" means synthetically made plastic fibre and wickerwork, which is based on the natural rattan. Unlike rattan, there is no possibility for liquids to get inside the material and it is also less prone to be damaged by UV rays. This protects your furniture from harm caused by the weather and makes it easy for you to care for it. Except for this important difference, polyrattan possesses the same qualities as natural rattan. With today’s technology, polyrattan is hard to distinguish from natural rattan.

Each production phase of our products is reviewed through elaborate quality tests and test procedures, in order to provide only high quality and unique goods.

Wickerwork

There are two different kinds of polyrattan wickerwork: flat ribbon and rounded fibre, which means the cross-section of the polyrattan netting. Haptic differences consist in the availability of polyrattan with a natural rattan-like surface and in smooth plastic fibre form.

This wickerwork is mostly plaited by hand on a solid, rust-free powder-coated aluminium frame, whereby the furniture receives a specific form and become more solid. Furthermore the weight of the furniture is reduced, which allows it to be transported more easily.
