Care Instructions for Wooden Furniture

Wood is radiating warmth and is easy to maintain. You are able to create an atmosphere of unequalled naturalness with our especially designed wooden furniture, indoors as well as in your garden. Wood is a natural material and therefore goes well with the garden greenery. Take a minute to look at our wide range of products. Properly maintained will remain beautiful for many years.

Normal Care

The wood of deciduous trees should be protected against the ingress of water into the wood in the process of oiling. After the process of oiling, the water flows over the surface.Hardwoods like Teak and Yellow Balau do not require oiling because of their natural oil content. After unpacking your furniture it may turn out that there are residues of sanding dust left on the surface due to the way the furniture has been produced. These are usually washed away with the first rain. If you want to make sure that there are no residues left on the wood, wipe the wood surface down with a wet towel. If the towel takes on colour, you should clean the furniture before using it.

If the wood surface of the table is stained, you can clean it gently with a scrubber and some water and soapsuds. It is recommended to carry out this cleaning process at least once or twice a year. A pressure washer can also be used if necessary, but make sure to never let the pressure go over 60bar and to have a minimum distance of 30 to 40cm between the wood and the nozzle.

Greasy spots are best removed gently with sandpaper. After the cleaning, it is necessary to wipe down residues with a wet towel.

Special Care

If your garden furniture is standig completely outside with no cover and exposed to sun and other environmental influences, it is recommended at least once a year to sand down the surface a little bit and to seal it. If the furniture is covered, for instance through a roof or shelter, repeating this treatment every two to four years is enough.

Additionally to the care of wood furniture it is suggested to retighten the screws before using it for the first time and afterwards at least once a year, since they might become loose.

Repairing dents in the wood

This trick can be successfully used on all wooden surfaces. Dents or unevenness in the wood quickly arise during transportation or moving furniture. The following tasks will overcome imperfections in a short period of time.

You need to prepare an iron, some water and a paper towel, cloth or piece of cloth.

1. Put on some water on the damaged area, it should cover the repairing area.

2. Cover the wet place with a towel, so it can absorb the excess moisture.

3. Iron until the towel is dry. Keep the iron in a circular motion, back and forth, pushing it evenly.

4. Under the influence of water and temperature wooden surface returns to its original shape.

5. The process should be repeated until a satisfactory result.

"Patina" resp. greying/ silvering

If the wood is left untreated, it loses it natural oil content after a while and receives a silvery layer, which is called "patina". This might appeal to you, depending on your personal taste. To avoid this silvering/ greying, you need to treat the wood with lasur paint, which can be found in specialty stores. Apply it sparingly with a sponge on the cleaned wood surface and dry it with a soft towel. Carry out this treatment once or twice a year. The treatment is only for visual effects and does not prolong or reduce the living expectancy of your garden furniture.

Winter storage

After the season is finished, choose the appropriate place to store your garden furniture during winter. Wooden garden furniture should not be stored in a dry and warm, as they may dry up really quickly. The ideal place would be a garage or carport, providing protection from the rain, but also the flow of air.
